On 30 August 2019, the 1st EUCAN ELSI Hackathon Workshop took place in London at Wellcome, bringing together the EUCAN Projects that successfully responded to call H2020-SC1-BHC-2018-2020 (Topic SC1-BHC-05-2018). The aim of the meeting was to identify synergies on ethical, legal and societal (ELSI), following the spirit of the joint meeting of the EU-Canada flagship projects on 20 September 2018, where project coordinators observed many common challenges and possibilities for collaboration.
Agreed ELSI focus areas:
- Exchange on practical experience on GDPR compliance, ethical values and societal considerations: breaking up silos between IT & ELSI (all)
- Sharing overview table on Research Ethics Committees (lead: CINECA)
- Sharing information on GDPR implementation in member states/consortium partners (lead: EUCANCAN)
- Sharing (preliminary) findings of stakeholder perspectives research to ground emergent governance framework in empirical findings (lead: EUCAN-Connect)
- Collaborate with patient advocacy groups presenting the projects and their results (all)
Upcoming meetings: 1 face-to-face meeting per year + 2 teleconferences per year
